A made-to-measure book
Isabella: a name fit for queens, with “Bella” tucked inside
Isabella is a name with real history behind it — Spanish and Italian royalty, centuries of queens — and a short, warm “Bella” hiding in its last two syllables. Here's a storybook where she gets to be the one the adventure is about.

Why a book with Isabella on the cover
Isabella is a name that takes its time. Four syllables — Is-a-bel-la — with the stress landing on the third, so it rolls rather than snaps. Read aloud at bedtime, it has a rhythm a short name simply doesn't, and in a story it carries a certain weight: “Isabella stepped onto the pitch” sounds like the opening of something important.
That length also means most girls called Isabella spend a lot of their day as somebody else — Bella at home, Izzy at school, Issy to a grandparent. A book with the full name on the front is a small occasion: the formal, grown-up version of her name, printed big, on a story where she is the heroine.
And because the story is written in English from the start rather than translated, the name sits in every sentence the way it would if you were telling the story yourself — no awkward gaps where a name has been dropped into a template.
Where the name Isabella comes from
Isabella is the Spanish and Italian form of Elizabeth. It goes back to the Hebrew Elisheba, usually explained as “my God is an oath” or “pledged to God”. Somewhere along the way through medieval Provence and Castile, the ending shifted from -beth to -bel, and Isabel was born; Italian added the final -la that gives Isabella its music.
Few names have spent so long on thrones. Isabella I of Castile ruled with Ferdinand of Aragon and backed Columbus's voyage in 1492. Isabella of France married Edward II and became one of the most formidable queens England ever had. Over the following centuries the name kept turning up in royal families across Spain, Portugal and Italy.
In the English-speaking world Isabella was a fairly old-fashioned choice for most of the twentieth century, then came back strongly around the turn of the millennium. By the 2000s and 2010s it was a regular among the most popular girls' names in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and the US — helped along, many people say, by a certain vampire novel whose heroine went by Bella.
That short form adds a second meaning of its own: in Italian and Spanish, “bella” simply means beautiful. So a girl named Isabella carries both a royal name and a compliment.
Bella, Izzy and other ways to say Isabella
- Isabella — The full name — for school rolls, certificates, and the moments when she's in trouble and you use all four syllables.
- Bella — The most common everyday form, warm and easy to call across a playground. Also Italian for “beautiful”.
- Izzy / Izzie — Bouncy and playful, built from the first syllable. Popular with friends and siblings.
- Issy — A softer, more British-sounding version of Izzy, often heard from grandparents.
- Belle — A French-tinged variant of Bella, sometimes used as an affectionate pet name.
- Isa — Short and continental — the way Isabella is often shortened in Spain, Italy and Germany.

My daughters love the book! We read it every evening before bedtime. The story is so sweet and lovingly written, and the pictures are beautiful. My girls feel really special because their own name appears in the book. A great keepsake forever! Absolutely recommend. ❤️
We got the book as a birthday present and it turned out perfectly. The print quality pleasantly surprised me – hardcover, nice paper and illustrations printed in fine detail. The characters are drawn so well that my daughter recognized her sister, me, the giraffe and herself :) She really likes the story and now it’s her favourite book, we read it almost every evening. On top of that, it will remain a lovely keepsake that she’ll come back to even in a few years. I definitely recommend it.
The book was a gift… I’ll find out how happy it makes them… but it’s very beautiful
I have the books ready as a gift, so I’m already looking forward to handing them over
An absolutely stunning book made to order. It's not only a beautiful gift, but a keepsake for a lifetime. Our sons are thrilled. Not only did they find “themselves” in the book, but the whole story also takes place in their favourite place, which is the ice rink. The whole book is accompanied by wonderful pictures, and the dedication from us, the parents, is just the cherry on top. I warmly recommend it. Not only will all the “heroes of the book” be thrilled, but so will you, as soon as you see the book with your own eyes :)
Our daughter was absolutely thrilled, she looked through it several times in a row and declared that it's pretty, she hasn't had enough of it yet and we read it every day before bedtime.
The book is very beautiful, I would have welcomed more pages (for that price), the story is interesting, because my granddaughter loves animals and her cousins, but I have to wait until Christmas for her reaction
I got the book for a birthday and the princess wouldn’t put it down.
The book is very nice. The pictures look very nice, they're not blurry. The book really made us happy.
Very beautiful book, I always have trouble choosing in a bookshop, something bothers me about every one, or I can't find a theme I'd want.. here I can make up anything
A beautiful book that has its own unique magic! ❤️ The story is wonderfully done and the fact that your very own child becomes the main hero is absolutely amazing. My son was thrilled with the book and so was I. 🥰 A great idea, beautiful illustrations and a wonderful keepsake that we will happily come back to. I highly recommend it to all parents who want to make their children happy and give them the feeling that they are the heroes of their own story. ❤️📚
The book is wonderful! Exactly as I had dreamed it and designed it, a beautiful keepsake for my little son ♥️

Whichever she actually answers to. If everyone calls her Bella, a story where the heroine is Bella will feel more like hers. If she's proud of her full name, Isabella looks wonderful on a cover — it's long enough to fill a title line on its own.
